Hampshire Holiday Cottages
Hampshire is the most diverse of the southern counties. Like all the others it consists of chalk country and has an abundance of thickly wooded regions. Cottages can be found on its bustling coastline or further inland, near the beautiful New Forest. Hampshire cottages infomation can be found below.
The New Forest dates back to William the Conqueror who, in 1079, established the region as a deer hunting reserve. It survives today as a unique example of medieval landscape and attracts a large number of visitors each year. The South Downs, that runs from East Hampshire to form with the Sussex Downs is another area of English beauty that offers rolling chalk downs, deep valleys and panoramic views of the neighbouring Sussex Weald.
The waters around Hampshire known as The Solent Approaches, have carved out some wonderful beaches around the coastline. These are located around Hayling Island, Calshot and Liepe and are blue flag award winners. They attract many different types of water sports such as windsurfing and sailing.
Hampshire is also graced by famous towns like Winchester with its majestic cathedral. The maritime city of Portsmouth, home to the British Navy, is another popular destination. Jane Austen spent much of her life in this great county which no doubt inspired some of her classic works. There's a wide range of events around Hampshire throughout the year celebrating her life and work. You can book self catering holidays in Hampshire below.
