Ravenglass Holiday Cottages
Ravenglass is a seafaring village set on the estuaries of the rivers Esk, Mite and Irt.
Located in West Cumbria, it is the only coastal town in the Lake District National Park. The town served as an important naval centre and supply base during Romans times and was home to a large garrison of soldiers. For Ravenglass cottages rentals see the properties included below.
Ravenglass exudes 16th century character, the harbour is peppered with a variety of pleasure craft and fishing boats, its high street paved with cobble stones from the sea. The village largely consists of a row of houses, some of which back on to the sandy beach, and a slip-way for boats.
The chief attraction is undoubtedly the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Affectionately known as 'L'all Ratty', its steam engines run daily services from Ravenglass to Dalegarth and back. It is one of the oldest narrow gauge steam railways in the country and attracts over 120,000 visitors each year.
