Wye Valley Holiday Cottages
Wye Valley holiday cottages enable visitors to relax in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Covering 45 miles and located south of Hereford, the Wye Valley offers some of the most inspiring countryside and scenery in the UK. It gained its (AONB) distinction in 1971 and remains a protected area. A plush, idyllic setting in which to book Wye Valley cottages.
The River Wye flows through this landscape of streams and wooded hills and contributes to the spectacular scenery. It is rich in wildlife and has a selection of walks and trails which are perfect for seeing this wonderful region in all its glory.
The industrial history of the area is explained in the nearby Abergavenny with tours of local mines - the valley is situated near the border between England and Wales and has influences from both countries. The border town of Monmouth sits at the confluence of the rivers Wye, Monnow and Trothy and dates back to Norman times.
The region offers a large selection of ruins from a bygone era, including the red sandstone Goodrich Castle. The 12 century fort is still largely intact. Standing three stories high, it looks over the Wye Valley towards Symonds Yat. Tintern Abbey is another splendid reminder of past times and a nod to the duality of Welsh and English cultural influences.
